    I suspect you'll find that the closer to the apex of the leadership pyramid you get, the greater you will find church attendance and depth of religiosity.

    In the Army, it was not terribly unusual to see Officer only meetings begin with prayer and to be handed out religious quotes and other material.

    There is also a subtle selection process involved.

    Picture this scenario:

    New Army Lt. sitting alone eating in the dining hall.

    His Captain's boss, a Major, enters the dining room and sits down in front of the LT.

    Major: [looking furtively to the left and right before speaking] "Lieutenant, do you know what secular humanism is?"

    and so it goes.

    Later, that Lieutenant leaves the Army and works as a government subcontractor. Do you suppose he is surprised to find that his new boss, curtesy of the revolving defense/contractor revolving door, opens a contractor staff meeting with a group prayer?

    and so it goes.

    The law, in its majestic equality, forbids the rich as well as the poor to beg in the streets and steal bread.
