    I lived in tropical Papua New Guinea and then Hawaii for more than 28 years, always near the beach, yet I never knew exactly what a rip current was or, more importantly, how to deal with it.

    My son is a surfer, but I have no idea whether he knows these details about rip currents either. So, I am sending him the link to this post, just to be sure he is aware of this information as well.  My thanks.

      but these are good links for everyone to see.

      Surfers use rips to get out into the lineup quickly.

      Maybe he will have a correction or addition I can use.
