  •  FL Court says First Amendment rights (11+ / 0-)

for news media guarantees them they can lie about, distort or conceal information with impunity.  So instead of "We report; you decide", the new slogan is "We fabricate and prevaricate; you believe"

I didn't think I belonged in the tin foil hat brigade but it is getting so that I don't trust any domestic media source to accurately report any subject.

decision. i hope to read the whole thing.  If they are right, and those are FCC guidelines, not regulations, then we must revisit the FCC guidelines post haste.

We could overhaul it and reinstate the Fairness Doctrine at the same time.  Right after health care, the climate crisis, voting procedures, and campaign finance reform. At least we won't have time to get bored.

The First Amendment was never even mentioned in the ruling, and there was little if any discussion of the content of the story in question. The only thing the court ruled was that "whistleblower" protection laws do not extend to acts that allegedly violate "policies," only to "laws, rules, and regulations." It's a pretty arcane but easily understood ruling, here:

There's nothing about whether the Fox affiliate had "lied" or "distorted" the "truth." This is an urban legend, at best.
