That last little red dot is a five year moving average, which, as you know, is a very slow-moving measure intended to smooth out the line.  When it does down, by definition, it is more than a blip.  Heck, in the scheme of things, all of human history is a blip.

I keep wondering if the blip might mean something.

One of my current interests is rising industrialization in emerging economies.  If you'll recall, we experienced a phenomenon called global dimming caused by pollutants that blocked sunlight from coming to the ground, or reflected it back out of the atmosphere.  I have the funny feeling that some of these emerging economies, ahem, might not impose the same level of environmental control to which western industries are subject.

Wouldn't that be a kicker if those nations, while escalating greenhouse gas output also mask some of its effect via pollution?

Then, at some point, they realize that they need to breathe too?

    Youch.

Anyway, all just speculation.  A million and one ways to kill us all.  I still think our best bet is some kind of magic bullet -- cheap energy that makes oil and coal too much trouble to bother with.

Just because I sniff at  Deus ex machina fantasies doesn't mean that I don't indulge.

Free speech? Yeah, I've heard of that. Have you?
