the average distance travelled (excluding mail-ordered seeds; and we save a lot of our own seeds) is 100 meters.

But we do use some organic pesticides that comes from who-knows-where.

This week's conundrum: This year we have the worst ever infestation of flea beetles, all over the broccoli, cabbage and collard greens. Not really a problem for the first two items, because they mostly eat leaves. So we let them be. We'll soon-enough harvest those crops and be done with them. they can go back to the wild mustard in the fields. But the collard greens are a problem. Our only organic pesticide that kills flea beetles is Pyola, a combo of pyrethrum and canola oil. Now it suddenly occurs to me that the canola oil is likely extracted from GM canola, so I don't want to use it any more. I love my collard greens, and they are so full of scar tissue from the insect damage that they are unpleasant, instead of tender. I think this is due to a mild winter. We've been here 11 years and never had such a problem as this before.

The cucumber beetles are pretty bad too, for the first time again in 9 years.

We installed solar panels a few months ago, so we're doing our bit, but there's been so much cloudy weather that we're not self-sufficient, because our house is small, so the roof could only accommodate a small system that barely generates enough on sunny days.

... just walking out your door, I don't think it counts.  Any more than would taking a bicycle a couple of miles to a local farmer's market or roadside stand.

Only grow a little food here, though.  Pretty full array of culinary herbs, some tomatoes.  And fruit trees.  This year's looking pretty good for fruit so far.  Unless the bears come down from the mountains to fatten up for hiberation in the fall...

Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves, for they shall always be amused.
