Thanks, Ken, for bringing attention to Jawad's dire circumstance and, in turn, to Herbert's excellent column.

To quote a dear Aunt of mine, a thought which echoes my own internal dialogue, "I don't know what's goin' on in that man's head!"

The cognitive dissonance between his stated intentions and actual deeds grows by leaps and bounds with each succeeding week and month of Obama's presidency. Granted, he's had alot on his plate, but surely he must recognize the need to lead on these issues of fundamental human rights. Especially in the case of OUR detainees, time is not a luxury that we or --more importantly-- they, OUR prisoners, can afford.

Through his inaction and an unwillingness to lead boldly on issues from detainee treatment to DADT, my former confidence in Obama's ability to bring the change so desperately needed-- and so seductively proffered in his campaign-- wanes on a nearly daily basis.

"It may be true that the law cannot make a man love me, but it can keep him from lynching me, and I think that's pretty important." Martin Luther King Jr.
