  •  Can you tell me the good Obama has done? (0+ / 0-)

    Besides pushing to close Gitmo? Even there, he wants to hold military tribunals.

      office he signed an executive order banning the kind of treatment(torture) that this young man evidently received under the Bush administration.

      When you get to the essence of this and many cases,if that executive order was in place 8 years ago, we would not have most of the legal issues facing us now.

      Obama= no torture.
      Bush=  torture.

      Big difference.

        where the agenda is to paint a certain portrait in order to keep hostility against the WH as high as is possible, regardless of the facts, pointing out the obvious will do little.  The point is to ensure that the site continues its decline into freeperism, with good writer after good writer falling under the influence of relentless negativity and allowing that to infest writing.  scorpio's comments, along with that of several others, are about moving the Overton window towards a more extremist reaction, so that the commentary will continue to tilt towards hostility among the more mainstream site writers.  This has been going on since President Obama's election, and has been largely successful.

        Not only have administration lawyers opposed defense efforts to secure Jawad’s freedom, but they are using, as the primary basis for their opposition, the fruits of the confession that was obtained through torture and has already been deemed inadmissible — without merit, of no value.

        do we still have a Republic and a Constitution if our elected officials will not stand up for them on our behalf?

          would you believe that I find this acceptable or not worthy of critique?

          I was discussing something which I believe is taking place at this site and handicapping effective critique.

            with which I would take some exception if that is the case.  If not, then I apologize for misreading.
