    in greenhouse emissions last year. Before that, we were the leading polluters.

    What's more, so much of China's emissions comes from doing first-world dirty work -- manufacturing and processing we don't want to see in our backyards in the US.

    Also, for perspective and comparison, just the state of California consumed more gasoline than all of China last year.

    I think we in the US really need to stop getting 'energized' over how bad China is, and start getting focused on what we can practically and reasonably do to lead the way forward at home, and then abroad -- which is a lot. I believe in American innovation, and a progressive spirit. And I think we can be partners with China in finding solutions that benefit us all, if only we stopped preaching what we think we know about them long enough to listen.

    The sleep of reason brings forth monsters.
