    to gain the pawn advantage in the middle.  I have to agree.  I also admired your persistence in playing it out to the very end, hoping for the stalemate.

    Also, as far as I know no is eliminated, per se, since it's a Swiss tournament.  But yeah, the chance that you'll end up on top of the field with the prizes at the end dwindles with each loss (and sometimes with each tie).

      After more than two losses you're out. It really depends on what kind of structure you're doing- a top 8 cut after log_2(n) rounds means everyone who's X-1 is guaranteed in and most of the X-1-1s will make it in. However, chess has more draws than Magic so I imagine we're looking at all the X-1-1s making it in and quite a few X-2s.

        but not going to finish in first place. Since I along with (I guess) most of the participants weren't expecting that anyway, it's just an opportunity to play some chess and see how we measure up against those of similar ability.
