    A century?  Longer?  Shorter?

3rd world in a really major way, perhaps within a few decades, if not sooner. It's estimated that a one-half meter rise in ocean levels [about 20 inches] displaces 120 million Bangladeshis alone.

There's more than just rising tides. Growing seasons and dry-wet cycles will change, again affecting crops and people. Insect pest vectors will change, which affect crops and people. Disease vectors will change, which affect crops and people.

The 3rd world is going to act as our planetary canary in the coal mine. It promises to be just horrendous. The UN and WFP will be [and are already showing signs of being - the WFP is one my customers, I know people who work in the UN peacekeeping as well] overloaded and incapable of handling the increased demand for food, water, medical supplies. Of course, warfare and violence will erupt as groups jockey for position, as is happening in Sudan and other places.

If CO2 reaches near 1000ppm, I don't see how most of the human race and mammals can continue to survive. Some estimates indicate 1000ppm before the end of the century now.

    •  Not only that .. (0+ / 0-)

forest fires in the West in the US, in Australia, drought in the midWest here .. all the signs are climate is already changing.

New England is really screwed up. Yes, it's cooler than usual, and a lot wetter. Simple things we have taken for granted like maple sugar from New England are already in danger.
