  •  yes, and the Catholic Church is.... (1+ / 0-)

according to the type of religious extremism to which Randall Terry subscrubes, the Whore of Babylon.

What you need to understand is: these extremists regard all mainstream religious denominations as evil.   Not just "erroneous," not just "let's debate theology here," but evil and to be eliminated.

No kidding and no exaggeration; this comes from people who have done extensive research on religious extremism in America.

    Keyword searches:  dominionism, steeplejacking, eliminationism.

See also  and look for relevant articles.

BTW, this kind of rhetoric on the part of these extremists has lately become cause for concern by law enforcement, as it is apparently tied in with "lone wolf" terrorism particularly shootings in churches.  The reason the killers are willing to violate the sanctity of other churches is that they believe those churches are places of evil.  The belief is the theory, the shootings are the practice.

That's what comes of this kind of thing, and that's why it has to be stopped in its tracks before it results in more killings.

      •  there are sects of Catholicism that.... (0+ / 0-)

...are every bit as extreme as the extremist Evangelical sects.

RT is first and foremost a dominionist, in the sense of believing that his own narrow view of religious doctrine should have dominion over all of the institutions of law and government.  If he's nominally Catholic, then he would tend to avoid mentioning the RCC specifically in his diatribes, but the meaning of those diatribes is the same in any case.

        Here's another example of dominionist-speak:

"It is time for a new Christian revolutionary war. ... We must not relent until our Christian heritage is established again in every aspect of society. ... We cannot allow the secular humanists, the religious liberals or the immoral of society speak on behalf of our nation."  [emphasis added]
