Where can we find some of these other apocalyptic writings? It would be fun to compare.

is great. It's a text from within Judaism, a mix between Revelations and the Divine Comedy, as the narrator is led through various fantastic landscapes by angels who explain them.

I went to many years of Sunday school but don't remember this book. Could be I'm blocking it out, as I do for most of my early religious training.

It never made it into either the official Jewish or Christian bible, too unconventional. Also, although it's not an apocalypse, the Gospel of Thomas is really interesting for a completely different style of gospel, which was also a genre.

Gospel of Thomas lately. Did they leave out all the good books when they put the christian bible together?

Christianity as we know it is what the Roman Empire thought would be the best belief system to feed to the masses to make them docile and obedient. All the complex stuff was discarded, all heresies weeded out, and any gnostic elements eliminated.

Thomas seems authentic - it is a bunch of "sayings of Jesus", which include many sayings that are also in the cannonical gospels. Some of the ones that aren't found in the gospels are quoted by Paul (specifically, "In Christ there is no male or female") is VERY similar to Thomas 22:

          (22) Jesus saw infants being suckled. He said to his disciples, "These infants being suckled are like those who enter the kingdom."
They said to him, "Shall we then, as children, enter the kingdom?"
Jesus said to them, "When you make the two one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and the above like the below, and when you make the male and the female one and the same, so that the male not be male nor the female female; and when you fashion eyes in the place of an eye, and a hand in place of a hand, and a foot in place of a foot, and a likeness in place of a likeness; then will you enter the kingdom."

The others are either too fragmented or too non-linear to satisfy. I guess satisfaction, in my book, is advice that I can use to become more compassionate.

Wikipedia, they give a list of them.  Herehttp://en.wikipedia.org/....  Also, in his Lost Christianities lecture series, Bart Ehrman discusses several -- I haven't checked but they probably are analyzed in his book of the same title as well.
