  •  Why doesn't the media focus (7+ / 0-)

on the fact that uninsured people ARE already costing taxpayers a lot of money.

Why are they so f'ing scared to take care of everyone (I know, corporate America hard at work).  Small businesses would LOVE not to have to have this on their books.  Other companies would like to attract workers by offering very generous coverage to their employees.

I have had 2 friends both diagnosed with Stage 4 oral/throat cancer and both got so called "indigent" or care paid for by other means, usually local, state and Federal Taxes from their general funds.  Billy passed away but I'm sure his almost 2 years of treatments and hospilizations cost at a minimum $200,000.  Liz too, I'm sure her care continues to rise in cost.

Billy chose not to have insurance and never made much money.  Liz was a healthcare worker making $8/hour.  She lost her job when she got sick and did not have the money to pay the Cobra.  Yes, just like the diarists' biggest fear here.

Who do you think is paying for their care?  HELLO?

What was so sad was what they went through to even get what care they have.  Billy should not have died - but nobody checked what the chemo had done to his heart.  Liz, luckily has a little healthcare experience behind her, otherwise, she would not have made it this far.

    •  It's safer for them to stage this... (0+ / 0-)

...as they do just about any political story: a horserace. Themes rather than details.

I don't care what they say, the erosion of the newsroom to a profit center has radically changed editorial decisions. Issues of public good and the like pale in the face of the need to put a good face/minimize the bad face on the actions of the corporate paymasters.
