There are incredibly exciting breakthroughs happening right now in fields like genomics and neuroscience. The public just doesn't hear about them or why they matter in the main stream media much. Science coverage is shrinking considerably.

because the so-called "New Atheists" are mean to religious people or refuse to accept that science has limits and it can never, ever, challenge supernatural claims (at least that is what Eugenie Scott argues on the video on your blog that you and Chris say reflects your exact beliefs)?

I am failing to understand how you reconcile your valid expose of scientific ignorance and lack of critical thinking in the American public with you attacking skeptical scientists for challenging faith-based thinking.

It really does come off as if you are failing to hold organized religion responsible for its overwhelming power on our culture, and instead, bizarrely blaming a small group of atheistic scientists, whom few people besides me ever read, for the entire history of American anti-intellectualism.

If that is not the case, you have failed to respond to this charge thus far. Instead, you both just continue to reiterate how nasty PZ Myers and Dawkins are, and how scientists need to be nicer to the Vatican.

One day posterity will remember, this strange era, these strange times, when ordinary common honesty was called courage. -- Yevgeny Yevtushenko
