  •  Obama has done all those things David (0+ / 0-)

Umm, those nobody remember Obama has supported wiretapping.

He has lead a surge in Afghanistan.

He has a secret plan to invade another country. Its Pakistan, where we have laid waste to innocents in barrages of Hellfire missiles from Predator drones.

He has only fought to stop torture at Gitmo. In fact, he has lawyers working on other places to be preserved like Bagram.

The funny thing is, before he was elected Obama DID tell some of these things. He talked about looking in Pakistan for Osama. He talked about the "right war" in Afghanistan, as if we still have something else to gain when Osama is hiding in Pakistan or dead and Al Queda itself has a global cellular structure.

The sin that American voters fall for time and again is that they ignore the implications of what a politician says. Of course whatever somebody says sounds good. If someone told me the climate change bill would save our environment, that sounds great. If you start talking about the coal expansion though, suddenly it doesn't sound as nice.

    •  Please, Obama is not George W. Bush. (0+ / 0-)

We might not be completely happy with everything he's doing, and it's o.k. to disagree.  I do it myself.  On the other hand, President Obama is NOT another GWB.  What he's trying to do in Afghanistan is solve the problems created by going in there in the first place and not turning our backs on a nation after we messed it up.  Right now, I trust him to get out of Afghanistan if things don't work out as planned.  I never would have gone in there in the first place.  Instead, I would have sent in a small group assigned to the job of getting Osama.  Then I would have left and asked the United Nations to help this nation modernize and educate its people.  I hope Obama makes more use of the U.N. and gets it back to the task of solving problems and preventing wars.  All Republican presidents since and including Reagan did so much damage to this nation that it's probably going to take at least ten years to turn things around.

      •  Take another look from Obama's perspective (0+ / 0-)

Notice you didn't mention Pakistan, or Bagram, or wiretapping. All things that were done by Obama and Bush.

Beyond that though, I would agree on your plan to find Osama in Afghanistan. The problem is if you think Obama would have taken the same course.

In the wake of 9/11, Americans sought revenge. For example, Bush originally advocated an end to nation-building overseas, something he later went on to do in Iraq and Afghanistan. After 9/11, this changed.

Why? Because it was politically easy. It expanded executive power, something Obama has already shown he likes. It was popular then, as the drumbeat to war always is.

It would have been unpopular to NOT go to war. Bush, or Obama in that situation, would have been decried as a dove. Bush caved in to those whispering in his ear for intervention overseas, people like Rumsfeld, Cheney, and Wolfowitz.

Do you think Obama wouldn't? He has Dennis Ross and Hillary Clinton in his ear...if 9/11 had hit under Obama, there would've been blood too.
