I think he's deeply conflicted. Deeply conflicted enough to not trust him as far as i could throw him.

Then again, maybe it's me. I had more than my fair share of wrangling these Canuck types who came down to the US in the 80's and 90's to be good little neocons, because Canadian conservationism just wasn't authoritarian enough for them or whatever, and all of them deeply conflicted and utterly untrustworthy.

The Canadian necons that I personally know, are universally honorable.

      They are simply mistaken.

As Jefferson pointed out, Men of good faith can fundamentally disagree.

All the ones I have known are the type to assent to authority simply because it is authority, yet they came to America to assert their individual political views---by falling in step with the neocons. Discussing anything with them was a very dizzying experience. One in particular, the former president of my alma mater, was probably to most deeply conflicted and irrational man I have ever met. Very intelligent, educated in Europe, spoke 3 languages besides English, but a miserable human being, far worse that merely mistaken. Thankfully, he went back to Canada. He had the social status and clout to do damage--and he did do a lot of damage to my alam mater politically, so much so, I refuse to having anything to do with it today.

we have a lovely authoritarian brand of conservatism now, and a hunky PM too.
oh, I threw up in my mouth a little.

A loss of politeness, of gentle manners, is more significant than a riot.
