As a Canadian observer - it's clear to me that while the WORLD thinks that the US Revolutionaries fought "Tyranny" to win "Democracy" - you Americans think you fought "Tyranny" for the right to be armed to the teeth as individuals in order to "make war on your democracy if it pisses you off."

At least you've got your 800 military bases abroad, your 11 Nuclear Carrier Battle Groups (while the Chinese and Russians between them have NONE) and the luxury of 60+ million people withour Heath Care.

MADNESS - INSANITY - but VERY American. Whatever!

    •  A bit broad brush with "you Americans" there. (0+ / 0-)

On the other hand a significant minority do indeed spout this shit. Juvenile, dangerous fantasies of holing up in the hills fighting off the U.S. Army, Air Force and Navy. Mad comparisons with minute men, long rifles against Redcoats and winning.

Among the developed world nations we do seem to have an unusual level of this diseased thinking here. I sometimes have wondered if it is our colonial past and young nation syndrome. Then I remember Canada. The factor may be the Revolution and the legends and myths* about that festering in these folks. There are similar strains of behavior in parts of Latin America where nations have a revolutionary past.

*Farmers and woodsmen defeating the stupid, clueless Redcoats that lined up to be shot. They need to read up on the geopolitical schemes of the imperial powers at that time where India was the real focus and even the sugar islands south of us were perhaps greater prizes.

The only foes that threaten America are the enemies at home, and those are ignorance, superstition, and incompetence. [Elbert Hubbard]
