    I appreciate it.

    I agree that there were a lot of "values" voters too.  In a close election, you can look at several factors that came into play, and probably come to the conclusion that one of them changing might have been enough even if there were more than one that could have changed - if you know what I mean.

    In other words - we could have won despite the values voters if we had done better on national security.  That's what I'm trying to say.

    And we could have done better with the values voters too, had we been more articulate.  Instead of "Mary Chenying" in the 3rd debate, Kerry should have said what Wes Clark used to say - "if your son or daughter, whom you love with all your heart, was gay, wouldn't you want them to have the same legal rights - to health care, hospital visitation, inheritance - as every other American?"  I think a lot of fair-minded Americans would have been more tolerant of our party's viewpoint if it were expressed that way.

    Voting rights are our most important rights because all the other ones depend on them
