    That as people become more confident about the economy, the savings rate will increase.  So, people who have jobs will spend more, accounting for some of the increased demand.

    This makes me think about an essential contradiction in what we're hearing from government about how a recovery is supposed to happen:

    They are instructing consumers that, in order to save the economy, they must simultaneously spend more and save more.  Remember the president telling us, "Americans have got to start to save!"

    Well, okay.

    But there is something wrong here.

    I won't tell anyone that Reagan was a turd.
