  •  Ukraine gripped by poll turmoil : Exit polls don't (none)
    ...match election outcome

Awfully fussy those Ukranians. They should learn democracy from US.... NOT

BBC NEWS | World | Europe | Ukraine gripped by poll turmoil

Tens of thousands of Ukrainians have thronged major cities, protesting at an election result they consider flawed. Opposition leader Viktor Yushchenko told supporters to stage a civil disobedience campaign. The cities of Kiev and Lviv refused to recognise the official victory for Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych.

While Russia accepted the result, a US observer alleged 'concerted and forceful' fraud, and the EU called on Ukraine to review Sunday's election. 'We are very concerned about the news we have had about the outcome,' said Dutch Foreign Minister Bernard Bot, representing the EU.

He said all 25 EU member states would be calling in Ukrainian ambassadors 'to convey our message of serious concern'. Moscow, which backed Prime Minister Yanukovych, recognised the election result. 'I have congratulated Viktor Yanukovych for his victory,' said President Vladimir Putin's personal envoy, Boris Gryzlov.

Observers for the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) said Sunday's run-off vote fell far short of European democratic norms

I wonder what they would say of US 2004...

    •  Yeap, those pesky Ukranian liberals... (none)
...much prefer driving the steamroller instead of running in front of it.

Let's hope, soon, millions of American Democrats, liberal or otherwise, [and perhaps several concerned Republicans] decide to get on their own steamroller instead of running in front of the neocon's.

      Peace.

      •  Bloomberg: US says Ukraine Must Probe for fraud (none)
Yeah, don't you like the Bloomberg headline? http://lawnorder.dailykos.com/comments/2004/11/22/19501/966/43#43

The Bloomberg headline from google news:

"Ukraine Must Probe Presidential Election Fraud, U.S. Govt Says"

Just take out a few key words from the article, however:

The U.S. government said * must investigate charges of fraud in the Nov. 21 run-off presidential election that prompted more than half a million people to take to the streets to protest preliminary results.

``These charges need to be thoroughly investigated and cleared up before the international community can have confidence that the results of the * elections reflect the will of the people,'' U.S. State Department spokesman Adam Ereli said yesterday, according to an e-mailed transcript.

        ...

The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe said polling didn't meet international standards and U.S. Senator Richard Lugar, monitoring the vote in the capital, , said the government helped rig the election.

        ...

``We call on the * authorities to curb additional abuse and fraud, to uphold its international commitments to democracy and human rights, and to act to ensure an outcome that reflects the will of the * people,'' Ereli said, according to the transcript. ``Should, in the final analysis, this election prove to be fundamentally flawed and tarnished, we would certainly need to review our relations with the **.''

Which country are we talking about, again?

        •  Oh sweet irony!!! Just wish we could... (none)
....get at least as much attention focused on saving our franchise!

I'm trying to jump on that steamroller and it sure would be helpful if all our concerned Democrats [and all those Republicans who know their party has been hijacked] would stop being asphalt and start assaulting the steamroller with me.

          We will prevail.

          •  In fairness to apathetic Americans (none)
They never had their Democracy, their Freedom and their future pulled out from under them by thieves. All those other countries had it in a not so distant history. They won't stand for it AGAIN.

A "virgin" America electorate still trusts that it's "boyfriend" Bush will act honorably in a car ride alone in the desert with no one around... Democracy "rape" victims know better...

            •  Well, those of us who do know better.... (none)
....had best decide soon if we are going to attack the neocon steamroller as it systematically paves every hint that a democracy once existed in the good ol' USoA.

              Peace.
