clarification. Alaskan law requires public officials to report gifts of a certain nature. Sarah says she does not report a gift until she opens the box and determines if the gift should be reported. She also reports having unopened gifts dating back to 2008.

Now why couldn't an assistant open the boxes, determine the value and nature of the gift, and then file the necessary report. As usual Sarah is arguing an arcane point that an item is not gifted until the gift is opened (Does this mean if I get a box with $1M which I know is in the box, I don't have to open the box until I leave office at which time it is not a gift to a public official?)

I do not understand why this woman is so incapable of understanding that the law applies to her and she doesn't get to read the law any way that suits her?
