I would really like to know if the occasional casual sightings I have are of one individual or one of many.  Are there any population estimates?

Typically, I'll see a red-tailed hawk perched on a fence as I drive through a tree lined neighborhood.  I always slow down and smile at these visual treats.

They've been inside Houston for a few years.  Plenty of food, and they're not shy around humans.  I saw one on the ground off Bissonnet one time, eating a dove a few yards from traffic passing by.

One of the local ones was in a tree about 6 feet over my head one time before he flew off.
