  •  Gates' next book - hopefully with Crowley (6+ / 0-)

By far the best thing that could come out of this is a true and deep reconciliation between these two men and a common project that takes up the "teachable moment" challenge and extends it, capitalizing on the media notoriety to do something truly valuable for our nation.

      Their styles are essentially incompatable.

Gates writes social history, whereas Crowley's police report shows a gift for fiction.

      •  It's not Obama-esque to hold a grudge! (1+ / 0-)

Kumbaya Photo Op so that white people can be gratified that racism can be solved with silly symbolism?

          I hope not.

          We'll soon know.

at the moment.  I've been saying over and over.  This is not his battle.  He's POTUS and his job right now is to do his best to push through a package of reforms based on the very limited societal consensus which has emerged: health care, addressing unemployment, redeployment from Iraq.  We don't have a consensus yet that the cops should respect the civil rights of every citizen, it's that simple.  We're going to have to carry the weight and do the truth-telling on this one, because POTUS is simply not in a position to do so.  Country's still way too racist and something like this, were POTUS in the middle of it, will ignite every resentment of soft bigots and their "race card" this and "race card" that and prevent POTUS from doing his job, something which was happening.
