In our smallish Northern California town that is run by a totally incompetent school district and worthless board, there has been a mass exodus from the public schools. So now we have charter schools full of our over-achieving kids and the test scores at the public schools just plummet. Do the charter schools provide better educations? No. But they kids who will test better anyway based on their socioeconomic background are fleeing to them in droves.

    •  Charter schools ARE public schools (0+ / 0-)

I don't understand the distinction that you are making.

You fell victim to one of the classic blunders, the most famous of which is "Never get involved in a land war in Asia".

      •  no they are not. (0+ / 0-)

They have excellent pr and lots of support form people who would kill the public schools.

Make promises then kick kids out when they can not place them into the next grade when they fail to acquire a school building to go the next stage.
There is huge turn over in charter schools of untrained people with emergency teaching certificates and at least during the Bush years were allowed to fail students for three years before providing tutors but actually just pushed them out to get higher scores.  Plus cheating on tests is far more rampant in charter schools.

Great point! Is this privatization or what? Seems to me we are leaving a lot of children behind!
