    ...and we came way too close to catastrophe on November 4.

    The fact that she was (is) celebrated by so many is indicative of how dumbed-down our country has become. That we don't value smarts anymore.

      There's a sizable segment of the American public that has always feared and hated them folks with that there fancy book-larnin.  Growing up in the 1950s, for example, I well remember just how despised the booksmart kids were in school by a lot of my fellow students.

      Remember Spiro Agnew's swipe at "nattering nabobs of negativism"?  He also said:

      An intellectual is a man who doesn't know how to park a bike


      Oh, irony of ironies!  Agnew also said (in decrying the "liberal media"):

      The American people should be made aware of the trend toward monopolization of the great public information vehicles and the concentration of more and more power over public opinion in fewer and fewer hands.
