someone takes a simple statement about atheist equality as an insult and a frontal attack on their concerns. And, once again, I am at a loss to understand the reasoning.

If your support for atheist equality depends on me saying what you want me to say in a comment, it obviously isn't a particularly sincere commitment. My support for LGBT rights is not dependent on whether or not you decide to respond like an asshole.

This is not a contest. I merely stated my conviction that equality is a value worth pursuing on its merits, not situationally as a tactic to gain an advantage solely for your personal benefit or the benefit of a group you are affiliated with.

I fight for civil rights for all people with equal conviction - in fact, I spend a lot more time engaged with LGBT issues right now than atheist issues. As I said, it's not a contest.

Why do you find it necessary to compare and rank people's right to equal respect and equal rights?

It seems to me that being a progressive means caring about everyone, not just your own.

And once again, I wonder what I might have said to offend you - or why you feel it necessary to be so offensive and personal in your remarks?

    •  You overreacted (0+ / 0-)

I made a comment about why I hate Denny's thinking it might get a little chuckle.

Instead, you begin this tirade against me about how atheists' are so persecuted. How else would you expect me to respond except to attack you?

      Get a grip, dear.

      •  I guess you don't take responsibility (0+ / 0-)

for anything you've written since that first comment.

How else would you expect me to respond except to attack you?

Oh, I don't know - perhaps substantively addressing the issues in a non-condescending, respectful way - "dear"?.
