  •  We should label our reforms as "military spending (6+ / 0-)

If we were smart we would make all of our reforms technically military. That way anyone who votes against them can be trashed for opposing military spending, soft on defense etc.

Education? Hey, tomorrow's weapons are going to be really complex. We need to train tomorrow's soldiers.

Healthcare? What the heck is healthcare? We just want to funding our anti-biological weapon defense. Like Reagan's star wars, only for biological weapons. If it accidentally results in health insurence for all, that's completely unintentional.

Alt Energy research? We're just researching new ways to power tanks and bombers. If we end up getting electric cars out of the deal, that's just unintended consequences, we promise.

Foreign aid? Uh, military assistence for states threatened by terrorism. Which means absolutely any of 'em, because terrorists are so omnipotent and scary. Boo!

Magalev trains? Uh, we're building tomorrow's hovertanks industry. Yeah, that's it.

Volcano monitoring? Didn't you know the terrorists are building a volcano-detonating machine? Boogaboogabooga!

And so on. We should make a whole thread on this.

However,  I'm pretty sure you can't have hovertanks without lesbians to crew them,  so you'd have to get rid of DADT first.

    •  I Don't Mean To Be Dense But What's Your Point? (0+ / 0-)

DARPA created the internet for military purposes. DARPA is part of the Defense Department and is funded by defense expenditures.

That is a fact.  Whether you think the internet is a monster that should be destroyed or a blessing to mankind that should survive, it is a military creation.

Institutions of higher learning may take funds for ROTC, get funding for military research, have students from the military - both uniformed and civilian - but are not part of DD or established for military purposes.

That is also a fact.  Higher education may lead to more sophisticated warfare but is not generally intended for that purpose.

      Again what is your point?

I am too dumb to understand.

      Best, Terry
