"Independents who have heard a lot about the bills..."  Hearing a lot about the bills is not at all the same as reading any of them.  Most of them aren't even available to read.

Depending on where these Independents have "heard" about the bills is going to determine whether or not they oppose them.  Fox News?  C-SPAN?  I am the only person I know who has actually read the 1000+ page bill put together by Waxman's committee (and let me tell you it was a week-long slog), which is a long way from a final bill.

We don't have a bill yet - we don't even have a Senate bill and a separate House bill that need to be reconciled.  All this hand-wringing is over sausage-making, and the misinformation about what any of these plans would do is all over both sides of the aisle.  The worst of the polls ask what respondents think of "Obama's bill."  These are polls taken only for the sake of sensationalism - there is no Obama bill.  There is no House or Senate bill; there is agreement on very few things being discussed in the committees.

"In this world of sin and sorrow there is always something to be thankful for; as for me, I rejoice that I am not a Republican." - H. L. Mencken
