    I haven't used algebra once.  Done plenty of raw computation, but not much math.

      how much to spend for stuff, how far a drive is, random house things like that.  I used geometry the other day to figure out how far I ran when I was at a friend's house.  Those are silly examples, but they come up a lot.

        People would use this stuff more if they could. There are blogs full of ways people have found ways to apply math to their everyday life. But you don't see those possibilities if you don't have the tools to begin with.

        •  I can solve differential equations (0+ / 0-)

          but I haven't found anything other than arithmetic useful on a daily basis.  The only times I use real math is when I get curious about something totally random and try to find out, like, how many Empire State buildings could be constructed out of 243 Ida.

        Algebra comes in handy if you want to convert a recipe for 4 to make enough for 7 people.
