My poor Southern mind is unable to process the acerbic humor of your well-placed zings and spot-on commentary. Why don't you join your friends Bennett Cerf and Dorothy Parker at the Algonquin, where such reparte could be accepted with gin and wry sneers?

I'm a Southerner, a white male at that, born'd and bred.  Grew up next to a tobacco farm on well water.

So if you think I somehow ain't got the right to make fun of the right wing, redneck, ignorant jackasses who have absolutely dominated politics either as idiot jackass right wing segregationist Democrats or post-Civil Rights era as idiot jackass right wing Republicans, then buddy, you best go find a Yankee friend on whose shoulder to cry.

One of the best things Southerners can do for their country is to call the idiot right wing jackass neo-Confederates out for their traitorous, nation-harming bullshit at every occasion.

Apart from that, as a Southerner I'm deliriously glad that the GOP's Southern jackass addiction is helping to lead to the collapse of the party;  I can't wait 'til there's nothing left of the GOP but 5 old drunk bitter white guys in an Alabama or Mississippi trailer park.

and I accept it with the grace God gave all Southerners.

        •  And who's a Southerner, anyway? (0+ / 0-)

I've certainly encountered a number of people who came to the South expecting it to be pretty much "Deliverance" all over the place, but I can't really blame them given the jackass image that the right wing Republican freakazoids have been giving the South for the last 40 years.

For example, when's the last time anyone you heard using the term "Southerner" seemed to mean it to include African American or Latino Southerners?  The majority of our nation's African Americans (if my stats are still accurate) live in the American South -- but how often is "Southerner" instead used to mean conservative white male by some sort of default?

        •  I don't get the Southern regionalism (2+ / 0-)

You take offense, but then it's ok when you learn the guy is a southerner?  WTF, man?

Somebody calls out all the redneck assholes in my area, I don't take offense, I chime in, because it's true.  Doesn't matter if they're from rural Michigan or Boston, "Taxachusettes".  After all, if I could have chosen where to be born, it sure as hell wouldn't have been Michigan.

Yet time and again, I see Southerners sticking up for their regional peers, as if pointing out that the South has more racist assholes per capita than any other region is somehow an attack on all Southerners.

I'm reminded of the line from A Fish Called Wanda...

          "DON'T CALL ME STUPID!"
