    What an interesting contrast with the Gates story.  I wonder how much of the difference in outcomes owed to your race (I'm making an assumption there) and gender (not an assumption), and how much was simply that you expressed your objection in ways that didn't (quite) trigger his "contempt of cop" reaction.

      remember this particular episode...

      I wasn't yelling at the cop, but I was most certainly taking an obnoxious stand and daring him to arrest me. I doubt that people could hear what was happening, but a couple of people stood there watching, so there was the same element of needing to make an example of me. I'm pretty sure from his expression that I did trigger his "contempt of cop" button. But he did nothing.  So, yes, being a middle age white woman was certainly an advantage over being an older black man who uses a cane.  Go figure...  

      What a sad, sad commentary on our times. Yeah, electing Barack Obama means we're a racial neutral society. Pffffttt!
