    I learned to ask people about themselves and to listen attentively to their answers.

    ... reminds me of advice I read many years ago in Ann Landers or a similar column, offered to someone who felt shy at parties: To be considered a fascinating conversationalist, ask people about themselves.

      And the funny thing is I love to listen to others.  My agent says she envies me because I'm a writer and can go to a party and sit quietly and just listen... but she's an agent and is expected to talk.

      LOL.  She does my networking for me, I guess.
