    service? Yeah, for about two months. Beyond that, I seriously doubt it.

    Outsource it to private industry and the first thing that would happen is cutbacks in training budgets and the hiring of less experienced (read cheaper) fire fighters.

    The way I envison it, before long we'd have tiers of service--just like cable TV--with surcharges applied to off-hours calls, extra billing for cleanups and so forth. The cost of fire inspections would surely skyrocket.

    Once they had monopoly control of the customer base, they'd start dropping services--stupid stuff like sending fireman to the elementary schools to teach fire safety and life saving techniques. Heh, if they did that at all, they'd be showing up with glossy brochures promoting the company brand--anything but the real public interest.
