  •  Major policy implications, & thank you! (0+ / 0-)

This one really means a lot to me, as you know, teacherken--and not just (or primarily) because you pay tribute to what I love and how that love was and is nurtured in my family.  It's also heartwarming to see you reaffirming a part of yourself that you don't always make room for these days.  I rejoice to know it's still there for you as it is for me.

Most importantly, though, this is an absolutely vital issue.  Applause to you and to Kristof for raising it--and even moreso to Louv for his landmark book (no pun intended).

The natural world is in dire peril all over the planet, and preventing its effective demise will require us to sacrifice.  There is no doubt about that.  There is also no doubt that human beings are unlikely to sacrifice willingly for that which they do not love and value.  That is the real risk which Louv and Kristof and this diary articulate.  "Nature deficit disorder" needs to be a term, and a concept, integral to the shaping of public and private policy.  Thank you for helping make it so.
