Not sure my brother remembers the exact date or time, he was very ill at the time the BC folks were trying to deny care.

I helped him wade through a pile of paperwork that nearly covered a 5 x 9 foot table.  Yes, the ping-pong table was the only one large enough to hold all the papers from the many doctors and of course reams of paperwork from Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

Two quick anecdotes: One of my old jobs was as a housepainter, and we worked on some high-end properties. I remember asking my boss what one particular client did for a living to have been able to afford a million-dollar home, and was informed that our customer was a salesman for a company that sells insurance forms to doctors offices.

Fast forward about ten years to a totally different job, this time doing environmental work. At a small airport in CT, I was working in a hangar that housed a $40 million corporate jet. When I inquired about the business that owns it, the crew told me that it belonged to a company that processes paperwork for insurance and pharmaceutical companies.

On both occasions it occurred to me to wonder how many lives could be saved by a better allocation of resources.
