    From the time he introduced his health care plan he made clear to the public, "If you like the insurance you have, you can keep it."  I'm sure he did this knowing that the insurance lobby would roll out the statistics that over 75% of the public is satisfied with their current coverage, and he thought this tack would blunt that argument.

    Although when running for the Senate, he told Illinois audiences that he "preferred a single-payer plan," someone must have told him that was politically impossible, because he didn't even hint at that's being on the table once he started his presidential campaign.

    I really think the man believed he could bring at least some Republicans on board; I don't think he considered how intransigent they would be regardless of how much the Democrats compromised to gain their approval.  I was hoping he learned from the stimulus fight that Republicans are back-stabbers who will not help him pass any bill that's not the exact one they want.  I guess not, if he is still insisting that Dem's seek "bipartisan support" for this bill.
