  •  Here's how it helps: (15+ / 0-)

By focusing on how astroturf this entire "movement" is, that fact is leaking into the traditional media (some of it, anyway).  And if we keep the pressure up, hopefully the media will continue to report that this isn't about authentic grassroots outrage, but about an orchestrated ploy by the corporations and the radical right.

That's why it's important to stay on top of it -- so that Keith and Rachel and others will continue to report it that way and to further marginalize these crazy rioting fucks.

They tortured people to get false confessions to fraudulently justify our invading Iraq.

this sort of exposure that helped cause the Teabagger nonsense to fall apart. It took our diaries and photos and videos followed by KO and Rachael putting the stories on the TeeVee for the rest of the media to get it.

Its kind of a trickle up theory of news. It starts with us on the street level.

are doing the same thing by sending out the unions and making false equivalencies..So once again the truth gets lost in the clusterfuck. What I fear is these people making some progress in fooling people on their talking points, we already see that some of them are working, ridiculous. Also dems keep saying this reminds them of 2000 and hello it worked so it really doesn't make me feel better or see how in the long run it makes us look good.

interview with Americans for Prosperity pinhead Tim Phillips.

While she did a great job in outlining this guys sleazy past, I wish she would have gone farther.

"Do you agree with the published tactics for disrupting town hall meetings?"
"Is it OK for protesters to 'shout down' other ordinary patients while they tell their health insurance stories?"
"Do you believe that HCR is a 'secret plot to kill old people'? "
"Is it OK for Congresspersons to lie about aspects of HR 3200?"
"If we are all just "ordinary patients" how does this mis-information serve the people that turn out at these rallies?"
"How does that add productively to the national conversation?"
"Is it duplicitous to support Medicaid, yet deny similar coverage to other Americans?"
"What is the GOP solution for HCR"

I wrote to her, and was going to diary this, but simply don't have the time.

I looked at their website yesterday, and they were piously regretting that some individuals had gone overboard, as if they weren't to blame for any of it, heavens no.

I was a j-school major many decades ago and have a lot of respect for Rachel's professionalism and efforts to be objective and fair to her subjects.

As to the BS talking points spouted by the guy, I would have preferred more followup when he didn't answer the question and resorted to dissembling.

e.g. Rachel asked about source of funds, and he said "50,000, blah blah."  I would have followed up with "who are you top 5 funders and the amounts?"

We can infer that the Koch Foundation(s) are the major funding sources and that the other funding is de minimus by comparison.

When the astroturf guys bring up George Soros, they want to muddy the waters. Koch has been funding a plethora of right wing causes - with the distinction that the Koch family personally profits from the outcome, something I don't see Soros doing.

      •  which unions? (1+ / 0-)
        Recommended by:

the old days when unions could go head to head with company goons and scabs are long gone if they ever existed (the few examples I have found ended up with NG or Federal troops being called in to put down the miners)

The interesting thing about GOP talking points is they are one sentence deep. Go any deeper and there is no there there
