  •  i am not sure i like have a negotiator in chief (0+ / 0-)

i am still deciding whether i like a president who is more of a negotiator than a leader. meaning, he does not know what he wants in bills he presents to congress and ends up passing weak muddled bills vs a leader who knows what he wants and strong arms the bill thru congress and takes his wins and losses and thats how he is measured as a president.

this deal with big pharma is idiotic and president obama is starting to lose me with his constant kowtowing to the rich and powerful

    •  Would you rather have phrma spend this (3+ / 0-)

that our ways is better for the country. i think to many of our leaders use this argument to convince the public its best for them, but its really laziness and poor leadership on their part

        •  Doesn't work that way (0+ / 0-)

Hasn't for a very long time.

          •  george bush did it all the time (0+ / 0-)

and the media, congress and business all feared his administration and thats why you had weak oversight

            •  Bush showed NO RESPECT to Congress (0+ / 0-)

That's something that should never be done again.  These deals happen all of the time.  Ask yourself what's better.  Nothing accomplished in the name of purity or getting something moderate to medium accomplished that could benefit the country as a whole.

            •  So you want Obama to act like Bush? (0+ / 0-)

Why? Because incidentally this time you agree with this specific president? And when another president comes alone? Then what?
The damage Bush inflicted on this country will never be repair. Never.

              •  gov't is always disciplining me with fee, fines (0+ / 0-)

taxes, and monitoring whatever i do, however i do not see anyone in gov't going without and obama is not disciplining the rich and powerful to make them understand the hardships we are going thru as american citizens ie congress oversees trips, new planes, congressional staff budgets etc

    •  The two aren't mutually exclusive (0+ / 0-)

it's naive to think they are.

      The latter;

a leader who knows what he wants and strong arms the bill thru congress and takes his wins and losses and thats how he is measured as a president.

      does not exist.

      •  i understand and that is why i preface with (0+ / 0-)

"i am not sure", but i will continue to think about it until i vote again. right now with president obamas lack of holding the rich and powerful accountable for their actions is turning me off - but i could be wrong

    •  he knows exactly what he wants. (2+ / 0-)

He also knows there is a co equal branch of government that has to pass the bills.  Negotiating is not weakness or muddled.  His stimulus bill contained most of what he wanted given even though we all ranted in the middle.  The supposed watered down version was about 1% different from the house bill.  Perfect? no but then we are progressives and there are many moderate democrats as well as independents and even republican citizens who need to be considered as well.

We used to rant at Bush for being undemocratic and taking to much power, trying to bypass congress or insist they rubber stamp whatever he sent.

Now we have someone who respects the other equal branch of government and that means he is weak?  I find Obama refreshingly strong without needing to bluster, bombast or threaten like a little child..which we had for 8 years.

      •  good point - but why do i feel the rich and (0+ / 0-)

powerful continue to manipulate the middleclass into paying for the carelessness ie goldman sach, blackwater, the whole financial industry, nsa, cia, etc

There's a reason why no one could pass health care reform until now. The industry is just extremely powerful. You can't just erase them. You have to negotiate and compromise in order to at least begin something.
