  •  Big Pharma (PhRMA) is honoring the deal (2+ / 0-)

Big Pharma has Harry and Louise on payroll making happy talk as long as Congress does not threaten their ability to force their own prices.  When Congress moves to actually contain pharmaceutical costs more than the $80 billion PhRMA negotiated with Obama (or his representatives like Jim Messina), PhRMA will unleash negative Harry and Louise ads about "Congress has gone too far..." or some sort of nonsense.

Same thing about the deals with the AMA relative to certain items in Medicare reimbursements and other items.  If Congress moves to control costs there, AMA will pull out.

Some Republcans, like Bob Inglis have seen the danger in this irrational wave and been disrupted as if he was a Democrat. (For those who are not familiar with Inglis (R, SC04), he was the only Republican from the Class of 1994, who actually honored his term limits pledge. In so doing, he opened the way for Jim DeMint into the Congress.)

    •  Of course, long term those policies ... (3+ / 0-)

... will have more chance of getting instituted if the health insurance companies have been gelded ... so I'm all in favor of getting the health exchanges established first, which primarily threaten the health insurance company bottom line.

      •  Agreed. It's about setting up frameworks. (2+ / 0-)

The GOP toiled for forty years in this country to set up a framework where they could control the public discourse and grease the rails for the agendas of their real constituents (the money/power elite). Progressives need to start setting up these sorts of domino-effect structures in our society - get the foundation work in there now, so that ultimate goals can be more easily achieved in the future.
