... Brownshirts were. You say they were racists ... just like the Brownshirts were.

If they thought the label was dignified, they wouldn't be using it pre-emptively against the Obama administration.

"Useful idiots" was the term given to Soviet sympathizers in Western countries and it's the right description for teabaggers.

"Brownshirts" were intimidating, but they were also organized and effective and they had a purpose. The teabaggers, on the other hand, have no idea what they are protesting. They have no message, no grievance, no program, no objectives.

In all the examples I've see of these people, their signs are all over the place, they chant weird things at random. They are highly confused. Brownshirts were dangerous and frightening because they were violent, but these are mostly old retired people, libertarian goofballs, LaRouche people, Ron Paulbots, weirdos.

.. their organization had a purpose and, just as the organizers of the Tea Baggers recruited from the disaffected, the Brownshirts were recruited from the disaffected.

And the Brownshirts were by no means as organized when they were getting started as they were by the time of Crystalnacht.

brownshirts were fairly organized, in fact, what i've read is that hitler put them under himmler's command because the SS felt threatened by them.  the brownshirts being mostly poor and under or unemployed and the SS being mostly middle and upper middle class?

i'm just asking here.  i have no quarrel with the diary, the diarist or any commenter.

The Teabaggers are not organized because they don't know what they are doing or why, beyond a vague sense of hating the fact that the President is black. Your argument with the brownshirts is too Godwin and we laugh at the opposition when they put a Hitler mustache on Obama's picture. Let's not put one on theirs unless they deserve it.

All that said, have a drink on me, and let's do keep an eye on these clowns, and if they start to turn violent, picking fights with union members and Democrats, if serious public disorder is fomented by them, I'll happily revisit this topic and revise my comments accordingly.
