    to declare an emergency and deny/severely discourage employees' vacation days.  Sadly, unused vacation days are lost at the end of the year with no compensation.  

    My employer tried that with a pre-paid trip I had planned for our 20th anniversary, but I threatened to quit before a big divestiture.  They ended up flying the 2 of us to our destination.  ;)

      The week before I was leaving for a trip, my boss took me to the office and told me I couldn't go because things were getting too busy. I told him I was going, period, so the only question remaining was whether or not he wanted me to come back to work when I returned from my trip. And since I was literally the only person in the entire company who knew how to do my job, he had no choice but to surrender.
