    I used to drive this when I was a sports writer:

    You get off 501, get on 378 at Conway, and go through Lake City and Sumter. 378 turns into 76-378 outside of Sumter, and it's 4 lanes, 60 MPH limit.

    Total distance is 120 miles. If you had a governor's escort, you could leave Myrtle at noon and be in Columbia by 2.

    Provided of course you don't get stuck behind any farm vehicles outside of Conway. The Conway-Sumter leg is by far the worst. Two winding lanes full of old farmers. But you can make up whatever time you lose outside of Turbeville, where the lanes double and it resembles an interstate for the final 50 miles.
