    I don't think the millionaire tax, given the steepness of the tax hikes, is very popular.

    Anyhow, if universal health insurance is a national moral commitment, shouldn't everyone be required to contribute?

    Finally, as Chris Matthews said, it comes down to a value judgement.  If you believe every American should have a right to health insurance the same way a criminal has a right to a lawyer, you find a way to pay for it.  You don't use nuances as excuses -- for example, "I support universal health insurance only if ...."  You either believe every American should have health insurance or you don't, and you find a way to overcome the obstacles.  I've made that value judgement that as a matter of social justice, every American should have health insurance, and I'm willing to accept the costs of it.  Have you made that judgement?
