  •  I live near Ann Arbor now (6+ / 0-)

I was just born in Jackson. Maybe "hometown" is the wrong word...

    •  Hi, neighbor! (0+ / 0-)

As someone who has lived in MI-07 for ten years, I can say that none of what you described surprises me, including Wahlberg's insistence on a revenge match and the wingnut Jackson County Commissioner.  I took at look at his official page and wasn't the least bit surprised to see that he represents Napoleon and Brooklyn, right over the county line from where I used to live in Irish Hills.  Knowing that neck of the woods, I suspect he may have just secured his re-election. :-P

On the other hand, this story made me even happier to have voted for Schauer.  When I met him at the Daily Kos get-together in Ypsi back in 2007, I got the impression that he was someone who knew how to work with local business and get things done.  He also took my concerns seriously.  Both of those make me sorry that I'm planning on eventually leaving MI-07 to move closer to work in Oakland County.

BTW, congratulations on escaping Jackson.  During my years of living near the town, I came to the conclusion that it was a low-housing-cost, low-wage trap and that it was easier to be released from the prisons around there than it was to move out!

Irish Hills for me is Dinosaur Forest and Mystery Spot and these fake Western towns my dad would take us to when was the Eclectakid. I lived in Michigan Center for quite awhile early on but also downtown Jackson on and off.

Schauer is a class act. I'll be VERY involved helping him get reelected for sure. The thought of Walberg back in office gives me the heeby-jeebies.

Actually, it's Pre-Historic Forest, where I worked as a tour guide during the summers from 2000 until it closed in 2002.  As for Stagecoach Stop, it closed either last year or in 2007.  Sad.

I quite agree that Schauer is a class act.

would have been the mid-70s (that's why the names eluded me :)

I'm frankly surprised they lasted as long as they did, almost 30 years!

Yeah, Stagecoach Stop. I'm pretty sure there was a second one at one point, too.

            T'anks for the memories!
