  •  Yes, but (3.50)
If the media portrays the Democratic base as "belly-button-looking, airy headed, America-hating, peace-loving, coastal, arrogant and condescending," they also portray the Republican base as Bible-thumping, beer-drinking, rural-living, wrestling-watching, gun-loving, bumpkin rednecks.

For all us costal Dems hate our portrayl by the newsmedia, at least we come off okay in the movies.  (I'm thinking of that great diary on Southern culture that was up just the other day.)

Media stereotypes aside, there are ways that the base can participate in all its diversity.

    •  If only! (none)

Yes, the media does portray us that way, but they don't portray the GOP that way. They wrap them in the flag and praise them as firm and resolute and honorable, when in truth the GOP is the shittiest bunch of liars and thugs that has ever existed. The Mafia has more honor.

      •  I guess it depends on what "media" (none)
I should have pointed out earlier that blanket statements about the "media" just don't cut it.  I'm assuming that we're just limiting the "media" to the newsmedia.

Recently, it's been fun to watch stories about how the Republican-majority House can't get a bill to the Republican President.  They don't appear so "resolute" now.

And I don't know how much the media (apart from Fox) wraps the Rethuglicans up in flags.  It seems that the Republicans do that all by themselves.

The most we could say is that the media (SCLM or Fox) is lazy.  Lazy, lazy, lazy.

Hopefully, in the media will wake up and start persuing some of the corruption of the current administration.

Of course, it's up to us to wake them up.

Anyone in the blogosphere feel like an alarm clock?

        •  The news media ARE the ones wrapping GOP in flags (none)
If by the media we mean Hollywood and such as well it isn't so homogenous, but it seems the news media- especially the pundit sector- are the ones that best trumpet both the ideas that liberals are wussy, unpatriotic, fringe elitists, and that Repukes are mainstream, pious, values-driven, patriotic, troop-supporting, etc.

WE NEED TO CHANGE THE MEDIA through pressure and through making more prominent our own media IF WE EVER PLAN TO WIN ANYTHING AGAIN!
