of every piece of us is complete?  Who the hell thought up of the idea to privatize our genes?

they own the use of particular gene sequences for particular uses.

Patenting of genetic sequences has allowed genetic screens for cancer treatment, genetic therapies, etc.

      This is not a conspiracy.

No conspiracy, but I do wonder how you can claim "Patenting of genetic sequences has allowed genetic screens for cancer treatment, genetic therapies, etc."

All of these would have been possible with the research done in public universities, it would merely be less profitable for certain corporations. You may argue that the promise of profits accelerate this process of discovery, but it would have to be balanced against the fact that keeping this information monopolized will slow down other potential tests and therapies that rely on the open flow of information.

but they cannot develop, QC, monitor, manufacture, and distribute tests.  There's a lot of stuff that has to happen after a "gene discovery" that needs to be done.  It just isn't as simple as patents-are-evil.
