I mean, what's wrong with being beholden to great American corporations that are out there doing the Lord's work, working their asses off, for low wages, to bring affordable health care to us all?

Answer: nothing. That is, unless they're NOT great. It would be awful if we were to learn that these are actually corporate monsters, vastly over-paying their top management; doling out fat comp to their already-wealthy do-nothing boards; taking the whole gang to fancy resorts for 4 day retreats packed with golf, river-rafting, massages, gourmet meals, motivational speakers, and a quick meeting; spending big for marketing, PR, lobbying, and legal; all while low-balling payouts, jacking up premiums, excluding the vulnerable, and kicking those who are actually sick off their rolls. Yeah, we wouldn't like it, if it turns out that's what the private insurance companies are really like.

So how about a strategic reset. Instead of just passing whatever bill we can get by October, let's start over and prove the case for the American public. Let the hearings go all winter, if that's what it takes. Get it in the public record, what these insurance companies are really up to. Put it out there: this kind of behavior by the private insurers is why we need stiff regulations and a robust public option, just to keep 'em a little bit honest.
