    terms of groups, rather than individuals.  In their estimation, everyone belongs to a group.  It's the lazy man's way of thinking--not necessarily antagonistic or friendly.

    It's sort of like talking about appliances, rather than stoves or washers or whatever....

          If you extend the definition of profiling as far as KVoimakas does above, everyone does it. We're hard-wired to. It's how we draw conclusions without having all the data. Which is a good, or at least necessary, thing, since we often have to act without complete knowledge.

          We make assumptions about people all the time, based on what we know about them. If we interact with them often, we learn more and update those assumptions.

          This isn't really a problem until it gets taken too far. When people, particularly people in authority, take action based on the profile, without time or inclination to see if it fits.

          The Empire never ended.
