    has long been to apply to the suspect behavior universally.  I call it the swimming pool syndrome after the southern practice of responding to orders that public swimming facilities be integrated by simply closing them down.  Somewhat later, privatization turned out to be a more practical response since private pools and clubs didn't fall under the equal protection clause.

    public = equal service

    That's the major hang-up with the "public option" for health care.  Of course, in that phrase, the antagonism towards anything public is amplified by "option"--i.e. just another word for choice.  Choice, you see, is the essence of equality on the recipient's side; public is of the essence on the social side.

    Yes, what's objectionable about socialism is the equal service requirement.  The "public option" is a double-barreled assault.

    How do you tell a predator from a protector? The predator will eat you sooner rather than later.
