  •  He's not taking a stand (0+ / 0-)

on national issues. He's thinking about giving a key to the city to a national personality who used to call his small town home.

That's not getting involved in national politics.

The mayor has a right to do this. You have a right to protest it if you wish. But to say that a mayor doesn't have the right to present the keys to the city to someone (which they do all the time), just b/c you don't like who is receiving the key, is ridiculous.

He's not taking a stand on national issues. He'd do the same thing if the guy was Keith Olbermann, Tom Brokaw, Greta Van Susteren or Chris Mathews...4 journalists of varying amounts of political activity for both sides. But it's Beck that once lived there, so Beck may get it. How does the mayor not have a right to do that?

    •  Because the man is a disgrace (0+ / 0-)

Glenn Beck is race bating. That is not acceptable in our society.

Glenn Beck is entitled to his opinion, but he is not entitled to inflame the racial divide in this country to aggrandize himself.

but he is entitled to say whatever he wants. Fox News is entitled to keep on the air (or fire him) if they want.

You are entitled to protest and boycott Fox. And you are entitled to organize a campaign against the mayor next time around should you wish to.

But the argument that the Mayor has no right to do this b/c you don't like it, is crazy. That's what the GOP does all the time and we call them out for it.

        •  Legal right does not equal moral right. (0+ / 0-)

Does your mayor want to get reelected?

Would your mayor want to see protests as he is awarding the "key to the city" to Glenn Beck?
